Individual lessons are a one-on-one time, student with the teacher, taught once a week in the studio. It is during the individual lesson that the infrastructure of learning is both built and fleshed out.
Individual lessons are where the student learns HOW to practice at home.
This is where the key relationship of teacher-student is cultivated and it is often where a student gets to learn wonderful life lessons, being accountable for the follow-through in practice at home.
Individual lessons are taught on a weekly basis in thirty, forty-five or sixty minute periods.
Individual lessons are a very special time when the student gets to share the magic of learning and accomplishment that took place during the week. (did you say learning happened at home?) Yes!
During lessons for young students and/or Suzuki lessons, we find the parent actively involved in listening to the teacher and learning how to guide their child's practice during the week. There is usually time for teacher-parent interaction as we wrap up the lesson. By the way, the parent may even be learning how to play right along with their child!
For someone interested in starting lessons, observing an individual lesson is free and a great way to find out more about my teaching style and personality.
